THE INSPIRATION

The Story Behind Two Cents

Two Cents came to life years ago while I was in New Orleans, when a stranger approached me and simply asked for two cents. His name was Todd, and he was a homeless veteran.

I took him to a nearby bakery for a cup of coffee and something to eat. We sat together as he shared his story. When I returned to my B&B, I immediately wrote Two Cents as a short story, but I knew right then it was a story that needed to be told on stage, and one that could be used as a tool to help others.

While there are many fictional elements, the inspiration behind this piece is a tribute to all veterans, our homeless population, and the importance of compassion for one another.
